WASTE AND RECYCLING

Please help us to;

  1. Keep the bin store clean and tidy – this is a constant challenge and particularly during the busy summer period.

  2. Maximise the amount of waste that can be recycled.

  3. Not leave waste that will not be collected

In Spring 2021, South Hams will be rolling out an improved recycling service allowing residents to recycle more as part of their kerbside collection.

The new service will allow residents to recycle much more as part of their kerbside collection. As well as all the materials we currently collect, you'll be able to recycle things like:

  • Glass bottles and jars

  • A wider range of plastics

  • Batteries

As well as this, recycling and food waste will be collected every week. Refuse will be picked up every fortnight in black plastic bags. See South Hams New Super Recycler Service

RECYCLING AND BIN STORE

  1. Recycling in Salcombe may well be different to the arrangements you are familiar with at home so please note:
  2. Recycling needs to be sorted into the green boxes (cardboard, glass, paper) or white sacks (plastic packaging, tins).

  3. All food/drink packaging recycling materials should be cleaned before disposal.

  4. The green boxes contents NEED TO BE SORTED so like materials are placed together NOT MIXED, as collection involves placing paper, cardboard and glass in separate sections of the recycling vehicle.

  5. The bin store will contain 19 green boxes (6 for paper, 6 for cardboard, 6 for glass, 1 for batteries and printer cartridges).

  6. All recycling bags/boxes should be placed in the allocated and signed area in the bin store.

  7. Non-recycleable waste should be placed in black plastic bags in the designated bay and is collected fortnightly.

  8. Each flat is responsible for the supply of their own black plastic bags.

  9. Food waste should be place in bio-degradable plastic bags in the brown food caddies in the bin store. SHDC will provide kitchen caddies for each flat. Food waste is collected weekly.
